Post-Surgery Wear There are two complimentary recovery bra options. The Breast Care Nurse can either order the Berlei Bra for delivery prior to surgery or provide you with the Amoena Recovery Bra at your appointment.
Lumpectomy You will need to bring your recovery bra with you when having surgery so that the Ward Nurse can help you put the bra on after surgery. The bra is usually worn for 6-8 weeks after surgery to improve comfort and support the breast whilst healing.
Chemotherapy & Radiation Radiation typically occurs after surgery, but may occur at different stages depending on circumstances. Softer, lower compression comfort bras and tops can be more comfortable for tender skin.
Scar Management Can usually be started after sutures are removed and the skin is fully closed.
Day & Office Wear When transitioning back to fashion and sports bras, wearing a non-underwire style for 6-12 months reduces the risk of rigid underwires pressing on scarring or restricting lymph flow if the lymphatic system is compromised during radiotherapy. When surgery or radiation affects the shape of the breasts, a partial form or shape can restore breast symmetry.
