PROCESS, STEPS & TIMING

Male & Female

Why, When & What Garment is Needed

Compression garments and lingerie support specific parts of the body.

During recovery they provide the firm and even pressure that promotes swelling and pain reduction, helps with shaping the recovering body, and improves mobility by reducing tension on tender incisions.

As swelling reduces after surgery a smaller second garment may be needed to retain a firm fit. When more mobile but still recovering, an alternative garment may be more discreet and comfortable under clothing whilst at work.

After recovery from breast surgery a non-underwire bra style may be more comfortable for the 6-12 months it can take for scars to fully heal. When surgery affects the capacity of the lymphatic system, transiting to a non-underwire bra after recovery reduces the risk of rigid underwires creating lines of pressure that could restrict lymph flow and trigger swelling.
