Coordinating a Management Program

Breast Surgery   Cancer related breast surgery usually involves removal of lymph nodes, and this can reduce the capacity of the lymphatic system to drain fluid from the breast, chest and/or arm.

Chemotherapy & Radiation   Radiation can further reduce the capacity of the lymphatic system, increasing the risk of lymph flow being compromised.

Physiotherapy Management Program   A coordinated approach to treatment, exercise & lifestyle appears a better way to gradually achieve the transition from treating to managing lymphoedema.

Frequent Wear Compression transitions to Occasional Wear   The compression provided by these garments acts to promote the drainage of the lymph fluid that the lymphatic system cannot manage. With appropriate wear, swelling can reduce and garment wear can transition to occasional wear to manage fluid build-up.

Exercise   Research suggests that muscle movement encourages lymph flow and that loose fitting apparel reduces the risk of inadvertent lymph restriction. Appropriate exercise & casual wear and the right support when active are part of a coordinated management program.

Occasional Wear Lingerie Transitions to Everyday Wear   Non-underwire lingerie can help with feeling dressed for the occasion without undoing the gains achieved from compression because it avoids the rigid underwires that can create lines of pressure and restrict lymph flow. As swelling reduces, occasional non-underwire lingerie can transition to everyday wear.

A corsetiere was a specialist in making and fitting what today are called lingerie and compression garments.

Their 'art' was founded on knowledge, experience, informed questioning and observation, and brought to life in the fitting room.

As specialist garment fitters, the 'art of the corsetiere' captures the essence of what we do - fit garments to the individual body shapes of men and women.
