Research from the University of Newcastle (Australia) and University of Portsmouth (UK) suggests that sports bra comfort improves when the support rating matches the intensity of the activity.
Activity intensity has two parts: amount and suddenness. For example, changing from walking to running increases the amount of ‘up-and-down’ and ‘side-to-side’ (‘figure 8’) movement and playing hockey combines running with stopping that causes sudden ‘back-and-forward’ breast movement.
When active, a leisure form can be lighter and more stable in a sports bra. Whilst the shape might be different to the breast form, the sports bra tends mask differences.

Sports bras tend to flatten the breasts, helping to disguise differences in breast size or shape.
Medium and maximum support styles have higher cleavages to increase breast encapsulation and cover upper breast or underarm scars. Wider straps give better shoulder comfort.
Leisure forms have a slightly weighted soft foam core with a generic symmetrical shape and are available in sizes matched to breast forms.
They have a removable soft fabric cover that can be washed, allowing for cleaning after vigorous activity.
