Sleeves & Stockings

Sizing charts for ready to wear compression sleeves and stockings typically show measurements that are Product Specific (ProdSpec). Therefore, measuring for size is the best way to determine your post-surgery garment size.

To determine if a ready to wear compression sleeve is the right length, Product Specific sizing charts typically show arm lengths increments (e.g. Up to 43cm). Under the increment that correlates with the arm length measurement (e.g. 41cm) is the nominated sleeve length (e.g. Regular).

To determine if the shape and size of the ready to wear compression sleeve matches the arm, Product Specific sizing charts typically nominate arm locations (e.g. Upper Arm) where circumference measurements are needed. Under each arm location are a series of measurement increments (e.g. 27-45). The increment that correlates with arm measurement (e.g. 41cm) indicates the size at that arm location.

When the size of each arm location falls in the same row, the shape of the garment is likely to match the shape of your arm or leg. When the size at an arm location is in a different row – which is not uncommon – it indicates that the garment has a different shape to the arm. If there are differing size outcomes, a fitting allows for the judgement needed to determine if a ready to wear sleeve can achieve a good fit.

With a custom garment, measurements are taken, and then the sleeve or stocking is manufactured to that length, shape and size. But a note of caution, custom sleeves and stockings take time to be made – and are significantly more expensive.
