The starting point is always to match the larger breast. The role of the shaper is to add volume, either to the front of the breast to balance projection or under the breast to lift the breast and balance fullness to the top of the breasts.
Partial form size is matched to the size of bra cup, shape is selected for the position on the breast where volume is needed, and thickness is used provide the volume needed to match the larger breast.
The process is similar when a shaper is used to fill the part of the breast removed during surgery. When filling is needed under the breast, size is matched to the breast and the more asymmetrical shape sits in the bottom of the bra cup to lift the breast. When filling is needed to the side or above the breast, the shape tends to be more symmetrical to give a smooth look in the bra.
