When a garment is needed for recovery from surgery, the garment nominated by the Surgeon will be fitted. When a garment is needed for managing a hernia, it is better to discuss the garment with your surgeon or General Practitioner (GP) before being fitted to ensure you are aware of any potential health issues associated with longer-term wear.
In the fitting room, the first step is to take body measurements. When each measurement gives the same chart size, the garment is likely to achieve a ‘good fit’. If one or more measurements give a different size – which is not uncommon, then judgement is needed to determine if the fit is ‘good enough’. This requires consideration of the hernia location, how the sizing may affect hernia support, whether extenders can be used to increase the size, or if there is an alternative garment type.
Fitting then allows feelings about ‘tightness of fit’ and how this might affect a ‘good fit’ to be discussed. ‘Tightness and the feeling of support’ can be felt in the fitting room, but not ONLINE. As guide, a measurement at the upper end of size range will have a ‘tighter’ fit and at the lower end it will have a ‘less firm’ fit.

A corsetiere was a specialist in making and fitting what today are called lingerie and compression garments.
Their 'art' was founded on knowledge, experience, informed questioning and observation, and brought to life in the fitting room.
As specialist garment fitters, the 'art of the corsetiere' captures the essence of what we do - fit garments to the individual body shapes of men and women.
