Lower Back Pain, Pelvic Girdle Pain, Sacroiliac Joint Pain / Perineal Trauma, Incision Scars
During pregnancy, wearing a belt or band for short periods to support the tummy can ease back and pelvic pain.
After a C-section birth, a band or binder can aid recovery by supporting the abdominal wound and lessening discomfort when moving about. After a vaginal birth, a perineal heat pack can reduce discomfort. For more severe trauma, shorts providing support under and around the groin can improve recovery and mobility.
A review of medical literature suggests that the length and frequency of belt and binder wear should be discussed with your GP, midwife and/or physiotherapist.

A narrower belt is designed to support the weight of the belly and improve posture by relieving pressure on the pelvis, lower back and bladder.
A wider band is designed to cradle and lift the belly, reducing pelvic and lower back pain and lessening the risk of abdominal muscle separation.
If vaginal birth results in perineal trauma, shorts with additional groin support can aid recovery and improve mobility.
After a C-section birth, a binder can provide the compression and support that aids incision healing, posture and mobility.
If vaginal birth results in perineal trauma, a heat-ice pack shaped for the perineal area can aid pain relief.
After a C-section birth, when sutures are removed and skin fully closes, 100% medical grade silicone ointment and sheets can stop excessive scar tissue build-up.
