Nipple sizing is based on the diameter (width) of the areola as Illustrated above.
When one breast has been reconstructed, size and colour is matched to the natural areola. When both breasts have been reconstructed, nipple size and colour can be chosen to suit the new breast size and shape.
If unsure, temporary rub-on tattoo nipples are a way to ‘try and see’ the size and colour suited to the new breast(s) before purchasing self-adhesive nipples (Note: There can be size and colour differences between tattoo and silicone nipples).
Alternatively, a STUDIO fitting allows you to try different nipple sizes and colours before choosing.
The self-adhesive is easy to place and remove and will retain adhesion with appropriate care.
Fitting methods can vary with experience. As a starting guide, hold the nipple by the top edge of the areola, gently bring the bottom edge of the areola into contact with the breast and roll the nipple up onto the breast. Any wrinkles in the areola can be removed by gently stroking outwards.
Once positioned, stand in front of a mirror to check the position on the breast. Check the left-to-right and then up-and-down position against the natural breast nipple, or to see that the nipples are positioned equally on both reconstructed breasts.
The self-adhesive backing makes it easy to remove and replace as needed to achieve a balanced nipple line.
Refer to the product packaging for information about caring for the nipple and the self-adhesive backing.
