Silicone Sheet for Larger or Multiple Scars by NewGel+

Unisex

NewGel+ Silicone Sheet is used to flatten, soften and fade new and old scars after an accident, burns, general surgery, laser treatment, and for keloid scarring and the like.

It is a a clinically proven silicone scar treatment made from highly pure medical grade silicone that is non-irritating, does not absorb into the skin, and does not contain preservatives, Gluten or synthetic fragrances.

How does NewGel+ work?

NewGel+ creates a protective layer over the scar that acts to reduce the production of scar tissue.

Its thicker, 1mm layer of medical grade silicone acts to improve scar outcomes by sealing and protecting the scar (occlusion), promoting moisture uptake (hydration), elevating skin temperature and providing continuous light pressure.

Is NewGel+ Silicone Sheet the right choice for my scar?

NewGel+ Silicone Sheet is 12.5cm x 15cm, making it the right choice when there's a larger shaped scar or when you need to cut shapes to treat multiple irregular shaped or wider scars.

Use our Scar Measurement Illustration to compare the size and shape of your scar(s) with the Sheet Size Illustration (for more, go to our Fitter's Product Notes).

Why use NewGel+ Silicone Sheet with the beige backing?

We stock NewGel+ Silicone Sheet with a beige elastane backing because we've found them more durable, and therefore better value for money, than sheet with a clear backing.

When can I start using NewGel+?

For new scars, it will probably be 2 or 3 weeks after surgery before you can start your NewGel+ scar treatment because the skin must be fully closed, scabs gone, and sutures removed.

For older scars, it's best to start your scar treatment as soon as possible.

When will I start to see results?

For new scars, with longer wear, you usually start to see results in 3 to 7 weeks, with best results likely to take up to 12 weeks.

Older scars may take up to 6 months.

The longer you wear NewGel+ the greater the benefit. Wear for at least 6 hours and up to 24 hours a day, with 12 hours a day suggested for best results.

Answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Below are answers to FAQs about NewGel+ and Silicone Sheet.

If there's anything else you'd like to know, call the STUDIO on (08) 9361 1300.

How many Silicone Sheets are there in a pack?

Each pack contains one 12.5cm x 15cm Silicone Sheet.

Should I use NewGel+ Silicone Sheet or the Gel?

NewGel+ Silicone Sheet works well on larger shaped scars or when you need to cut shapes for multiple irregular shaped or wider scars.

NewGel+E Silicone Gel can be used, but it’s better for treating scars on a part of the body where there's frequent movement (e.g. elbow, knee etc) or the scar is seen (e.g. neck, face etc).

You can alternate between Silicone Sheet and NewGel+E (e.g. sheet during the day and gel at night, or vice versa), but DO NOT use the Gel under a Silicone Sheet.

Should I buy NewGel+ before or after surgery?

It's better to purchase NewGel+ Silicone Sheet after surgery because scars can vary in shape and size.

It will be 2-3 weeks after surgery before you can start using NewGel+, so there's time to compare the size and shape of your scar with the Silicone Sheet as explained below.

How do I know the Silicone Sheet is the right size for my scar?

The best way to know if the 12.5 x 15cm Silicone Sheet is the right size is to compare the size of your scar(s) with the size of the Silicone Sheet.

Our 12.5cm x 15cm Silicone Sheet Scar Measurement illustration: measure the length and width of the scar.
First, use a tape to measure the size of your scar(s) as shown on our Scar Measurement illustration.

Next, compare the size of your scar with the Silicone Sheet Size Illustration shown at the top of the page, making sure the edges of the Silicone Sheet extend 1cm beyond your scar so there's good adhesion onto the skin around the scar.

Can I cut and trim the sheet to size if needed?

Yes. NewGel+ Silicone Sheet can be cut or trimmed to size with scissors. Depending on the shape and size of the scar(s), you may be able to cut several shapes from the Sheet.

Other scar management options if needed

If the Silicone Sheet isn’t working, your other option is to cut shapes from the NewGel+ Strip.

If you’re unsure, call or drop into the STUDIO to see our samples.

How do I use NewGel+?

Please read the product instructions before using NewGel+.

Yes, this is the boring bit, but the instructions have useful information about appropriate use, getting better results and getting better life from NewGel+ scar management products.

Applying NewGel+ to the scar

NewGel+ Silicone Sheet self-adhere to the skin, but for good adhesion, and to avoid degrading the adhesive surface, make sure the skin has been washed and dried, and is free of skin lotions.

When applying the Silicone Sheet, peel the backing liner off and apply the adhesive surface directly onto the scar. Don't throw the liner out because when you remove the sheet, you need to put the liner back on the adhesive surface.

Can I wear NewGel+ under a bra?

Yes. Once applied, NewGel+ Silicone Sheet can be worn under clothing, underwear and footwear.

How long do I wear NewGel+ each day?

24 hour clock showing you wear NewGel+ 12.5cm x 15cm Silicone Sheet for a minimum of 6 hours, and up to 24 hours, each day.
12 hours a day is suggested because, the longer the wear the greater the benefit.

You need to wear NewGel+ for at least 6 hours a day, and it can be worn up to 24 hours a day if it's removed and the incision is washed and dried every 12 hours.

How long will NewGel+ last?

NewGel can last longer than other products because the medical grade silicone is thicker and therefore more robust.

Washing the adhesive surface every 2-3 days with a mild, non-moisturising soap can extend the life of the self-adhesive surface for up to 4 weeks.

But loss of adhesion does not diminish the performance of NewGel+. When self-adhesion starts to reduce, you can hold NewGel+ in place with medical grade tape.

What evidence is there that NewGel+ scar management products work?

Collage of NewGel+ Clinical Studies supporting the performance of NewGel+ 12.5cm x 15cm Silicone Sheet and other sheet products.
There are more than 100 NewGel+ Clinical Studies showing before and after evidence of performance.

NewGel+ products are the choice for leading surgeons and continuing positive user feedback supports the claim that NewGel+ silicone scar management products can reduce, flatten, fade and smooth new and old scars.

NewGel+ scar products have a proven history. They have been used since 2005 and, in a market where brands are bought and sold and third-party manufacturers are used, they’re still made by the same company that developed them, NewMedical Technology.

What is NewGel+ Silicone Sheet made from?

The beige NewGel+ Silicone Sheet we stock have a stretchy elastane (spandex) backing layer, a thicker 1mm layer of self-adhesive medical grade silicone sheet, and a removable polyurethane liner that protects the self-adhesive surface.

The medical grade silicone is made from medical grade polymerized siloxanes (silicone gel).

Does NewGel+ have regulatory approval?

NewGel+ Scar Management Products have United States Food & Drug Administration (FDA) 501(k) clearance and Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) approval as a Class 1 Medical Device.

TGA Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods Certificate number is ARTG 199299.

Who developed NewGel+ and where is it made?

NewGel+ medical grade silicone products were developed, and are made in the United States, by NewMedical Technology.

Their medical device manufacturing facility is ISO 13485 Certified, Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) Compliant and US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) Registered.
